Terry Fenton of Cardiff

It is with a very sad heart that I have to inform you that Terry Fenton passed away on Wednesday evening. He fought a long, hard battle with the most cruel of illnesses and did so with fortitude and dignity – never once complaining. Terry was a keen angler and had a distinguished record in angling competitions having been a member of the Welsh Fly Fishing team on a number of occasions and also a captain. Throughout his illness his interest in angling matters remained close to his heart. His forte was teaching youngsters to fish and he was a Youth Coach for many years. He also taught many of us the secrets of fishing the Taff and Rhymney. He coached tirelessly at the Royal Welsh Show every year and will be missed by all who knew him. He and Jean regularly attended our national trials and his contribution to their success was impressive. We have many happy memories of the banquets the ladies of the S.E.Region prepared for us when the trials were held on Llandegfedd in the eighties. Happy times – providing us with lovely memories of Terry and Jean and the whole crew. Terry will be greatly missed and we know he will live for a long, long time in our memories. Our sincere condolences go out to Jean, who nursed him throughout his illness, and to Nick and Jonathan and their families. Terry’s funeral will take place at Wenallt Chapel, Thornhill Crematorium, Cardiff at 2.15 p.m. on Friday 27th January. No flowers but donations in lieu towards the ‘The George Thomas Hospice Appeal’.
