Clywedog Reservoir Sundat 3rd September 2004

The Half Moon and Molly Sweet bank competitions which are held annually on Clywedog Reservoir are great sporting occasions although not as popular as they once were. The number of anglers competing in bank competition has dropped in recent years, although taking the weather into consideration on this occasion it is not difficult to understand why the number competing this year was only 32. One must pay tribute to the faithful clubs that invariably turn up – the Ospreys, Elan Valley, Llanidloes, Tregaron and Llandysul are the ever present. The weather on this occasion was atrocious with the fishers nearly as wet as the fish. The top team for the Molly Sweet three man team competition was the Ospreys ‘A’ with 15lbs 0.5ozs weight of fish (Derek Smith, Bob Wyntle & Ray Morgan) Llandysul ‘A’ (Eric Davies, Dewi Roberts & Dai Williams) with 13lbs 15.5ozs weight of fish were in second spot. The only angler to get a limit bag of six fish was Eric Davies. The top individual weight went to Adrian Thomas Llandovery with 11 lbs 4.75ozs . The Half Moon six man team competition was also won by the Ospreys (‘A’ & ‘B’ teams) with Alan Banwell, Ray Johnson and Dennis Baynham weighing in their catch with that of the Osprey A’ team giving a total of 21lbs 10.5 ozs. The runners up in the Half Moon Competition was Llandysul with Ieuan Thomas and Gwilym Jones joining in with the weight of the Llandysul ‘A’ team giving a total weight of 15lbs 1.5ozs. It was interesting to see David Williams son of the late William Williams alias Will Half Moon presenting his father’s cup to Dennis Baynham the captain and mentor of the Ospreys
