The Welsh World Youth Squad recently returned from the Czech Republic, where they competed against some of the very best anglers from around the globe.

After ending the very first session in a promising 5th position, a series of poor draws followed, which resulted in some of our most talented anglers struggling to keep up with the catch rates of adjacent anglers on far better beats. The result was, that by the end of the last session (6th) our Team had slipped further into 11th place. At these Fips-Mouche World events, the final results for both Senior and Youth Teams can depend heavily on having a reasonably good draw. Anglers were drawn a beat of around 200 metres in length, and then spent the next 3 hours trying to extract as many eligible fish as possible from their drawn section of River.

At the conclusion of the Match, the top 3 Teams were:

1st Czech Republic – 2nd France – 3rd Spain

THE BEST OF THE BEST

THE BEST OF THE BESTCentre (Gold) Czech Republic, Left (Silver) France, Right (Bronze) Spain

It is obvious though, that not everything can be put down to the “Luck of the draw”, as at least 2 of these Teams appear on the winners podium year after year. It is quite clear to me that we still have a long way to go to catch up with these guys. But believe me, we are working on it !!

SO WHAT NEXT ??……………..TRIALS FOR NEXT YEARS TEAM !

It has now been confirmed that the World Youth Championships next year (2010) will take place in Slovakia. The event will be held entirely on Rivers.

Final dates have yet to be confirmed, though the organisers are hoping to get some time around the middle of August.

We are very keen to get a Trial for this Team underway asap.So that we can have as much time as possible to prepare, and owing to the costs involved, to fund raise.

We hope, (subject to agreement with the Clubs involved) to hold a one day Trial, on two Rivers (Taff or Ebbw & Rhymney)  The date will be Saturday 12th September. Entry forms will be posted on this site shortly.
