Ladies International Llandegfedd 2010

Ladies Fly Fishing International Championship on Llandegfedd – Results

The Welsh Ladies Team led by their Captain Audrey Williams marching towards the jetty on match dayThe Welsh Ladies F.F. Team was fishing at home this year and hopes were high that a gold medal would come their way.
Unfortunately this was not to be.
Llandegfedd Reservoir was the venue for the match and despite some butterfly weather during the morning sessions this gave way to good cloudy conditions in the afternoon. On the day the Reservoir fished quite well. There were plenty of fish moving – but as the competitors discovered they were very difficult to hook.
The match was fished over eight hours to 4 fish catch and then Catch & Release.

The results were as follows:
First: England with 33 fish weighing 51lbs 3.75ozs
Second: Scotland with 28 fish weighing 44lbs
Third: Wales with 27 fish weighing 42lbs 2ozs

England’s team members are well versed in reservoir fishing and although the Wales ‘fourteen’ had several practice sessions on Llandegfedd, the gold position unfortunately evaded them.

However there were jubilations within the Welsh camp when it was announced that Cheryl Jones was ‘Top Rod’. Cheryl also won the trophy for the heaviest fish.

Wales’s Enid Edwards – who is this year’s Ladies International President – was 5th and a New Cap in the Welsh Team, Alice Davies, from Ammanford fished brilliantly and came in in 9th position.

Warmest congratulations to England on their fantastic win

Unfortunately this year, Ireland did not participate in the Championship in Wales – but hopefully this will be rectified in time for next year’s International which will be staged on Bewl Bridge, England.
The whole event was a very memorable occasion and everyone turned for home with memories of a happy occasion – thanks to Cheryl Bulman Team Manager and organiser of the event.
