Welsh National Youth Fly-tying Championship 2010

The Welsh Youth Fly-tying Championship was held at the Elan Valley Hotel Rhayader on Sunday, 28th February.
As usual the standard was high and the competition keen as the young and enthusiastic fly-tyers vied for top position in the under 14 category and the over 14 category. Each competitor had to tie 3 fly patterns in the 60 minutes allowed – two chosen beforehand by the organiser and the third an own-choice.

It took a very long time for the three judges – Peter Jones, Paul Jenkins and Gareth Harvey – to come to a decision – such was the standard of work.
After much deliberation the winners were announced as follows:

Over 14 years of age:
1. Danial Davies, Cambrian
2. Dafydd Davies, Llandysul
3. Liam Williams, Merthyr

Under 14 years of age:
1. Lewis Rumble, CYCA
2. Trystan Davies, Llandysul
3. Wyn Jones, CYCA

The winner of the Terry Fenton Trophy for the best single fly: Tom Jehu, Merthyr

The organiser of the event was Dave Gregory who thanked Gavin Jehu for his wonderful pre-competition fly-dressing demonstration. He also thanked all the competitors for attending and showing such enthusiasm for the craft.
Before calling on Yvonne Singleton to present the prizes he also thanked Jonathan Williams, Celtic-fly for donating prizes for the winners. His generous gesture was much appreciated.
