Welsh Open Bank Championship – Elan Valley 2011

Report & Results

WELSH OPEN-BANK CHAMPIONSHIP on Elan Valley Lakes on Sunday 14th August 2011.

Keith Cadogan (2011 Open Bank Champion) receiving the wynn Kirby Cup from Paul HarveyThe Competition is run in conjunction with Rhayader AA and is sponsored by Cliff Harvey, Cilfynydd.

This is a highly popular competition – and is the only one we have which gives anglers the opportunity to fish for truly wild brown trout in some of the most beautiful and remote areas of Wales.Such fishing epitomises the pinnacle of dry fly-fishing for the many as it calls for walking long distances to remote areas before making that first cast. The fish – when they come to the fly – are small – and are weighed in ounces rather than pounds – but catching even one brings tremendous joy to the angler. This year 52 anglers turned up at the Visitors’ Centre in the Elan Valley to take part – and it was a joy to see seven youths in their midst.
