The Youth Fly-Tying Championship is the first event on WSTAA’s Calendar every year. This year’s championship, organised by Gavin Jehu, Merthyr, was held at the Leisure Centre, Rhayader on Sunday 13th February. As is usual with a competition of this calibre, the standard was very high with only the finest of detail separating the winners from the other competitors. The judges were Wynnora Thomas, Stephen Singleton and Moc Morgan and prior to presenting the winners with their trophies, Moc referred to the art of fly-dressing and of its development within Wales. He said he was pleased to see so many young people taking up the hobby – thereby perpetuating this art form for future generations. The winners were: Under 14 years of age: Over 14: Overall Best Fly and winner of the Terry Fenton Shield: In congratulating all the competitors for producing such wonderful flies, Moc also thanked those within WSTAA’s angling clubs who give of their time to coach and tutor our young people – the future of Welsh angling is in their hands. |
