Congratulations to Alan Lewis, of the Rhayader & Elan Valley Angling Association who’s been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year’s Honours List, “for conservation and services to angling in Mid Wales
Alan has been a member of Rhayader & Elan Valley Angling Association for over 50 years, and has been Chairman or Vice Chairman for 46 years. At present he is Vice Chairman and Treasurer. He has also represented Wales in the Welsh Fly Fishing Team on many occasions, including the World Championships in Italy and Finland.
Having been a hotelier in Rhayader for most of his life, he realised how important tourism was to Mid Wales and has always promoted the area for the excellent fishing it has on offer. This has entailed keeping an ever watchful eye on fish stocks, and in particular, the brown trout.
Alan said “this honour has come as a big surprise, but a very pleasant one, and I am now looking forward to attending a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in the Summer”.
